Curved plates, Red Clay

These potteries are produced by Zapotec women in the village of San Marcos Tlapazola, in Oaxaca, Mexico. The artisans build and polish a local red clay and paint the pieces with a red engobe by hand.

These plates are slightly curved and are waterproof and resistant, as potteries were originally made to cook directly on the fire.
